East Africa Reflections: Lloyd Wiede
My name is Lloyd Wiede, and as the newest His Voice staff member, it has been my pleasure to meet with many of you over the past few months and hear of your heart for vulnerable children and women around the world.
I have known of His Voice for some time, primarily through my friendship with Stan Fikes, a founding board member. After a 30+ year business career, I felt God prompting me to use some of that business experience at a Christian non-profit. So, nearly six years ago I started a “second career” helping organizations like His Voice raise the funds necessary to best carry out their mission and bring glory to our great God. One of my passions is connecting people together at the right time, for the right reason, and watching God do what only He can do.
I recently had the opportunity to travel to east Africa. Wow! There is really nothing like experiencing South Sudan, Uganda, or Kenya for yourself, is there?
After so many years of civil war, South Sudan at last has a signed peace accord in place that will allow His Voice to expand and improve the orphanages the organization started over fifteen years ago. On my trip, I got to see first-hand the results of the bravery of not only our partners and teachers there, but of the orphans themselves. It will be a great joy to help raise funds to build additional dormitories and classrooms for the primary and secondary students in Yei, South Sudan.
In Uganda, our team was privileged to meet with Mike and Megan Elkins, His Voice missionaries, in the city of Arua. Arua is strategically located for our ministry because it is near refugee camps housing over a million refugees, many of them South Sudanese. In addition, Arua offers a place for the graduating students from our Yei orphanages to attend university or trade schools as they finish their educations and prepare to go back to serve in their home country. What a joy it was for me to meet some of these terrific students! These students could not afford to attend school and become all that God intends for them without your contributions to the His Voice Education Fund.
Finally, because of the strategic location of Arua, His Voice has embarked on another major project to build the Arise discipleship and retreat center there. Just imagine the impact this center can have as it houses our students, our missionaries, and serves as a ministry base from which the Gospel can be shared and multiplying disciples can be trained.
God is moving, and I am grateful that He has allowed me to be a part of what He is doing through His Voice Global. I look forward to meeting you soon!
My best through God’s grace,
Lloyd
