Community Ministry
As we continue with our focus on fall ministry initiatives at His Voice Global, today’s journal entry takes a look at ministry in our local communities. For His Voice, those local communities are in South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya.
If you haven’t made a short-term trip with us to Uganda or Kenya, I hope you can find a way to do that soon. We hope to post dates for our 2021 trips soon, and you can go ahead and fill out an application form now to get the ball rolling.
Ministering to and with our communities is important to His Voice. Our Vision Statement is Relationships Restored. Communities Renewed.
So how is this being done in the countries we serve?
If you have been supporting us for a while, you know that His Voice began its ministry in Sudan, and later South Sudan in 2003. Civil war and the strife that resulted made South Sudan one of the poorest countries in the world, and one most in need of the physical hands and feet of the Christian community. His Voice responded by partnering with a local church to start 2 orphanages, helping to feed the community around Yei, South Sudan and working to play a substantial role in grass roots peacemaking initiatives.
Fast forward to 2020 and we see the ministry shift substantially to Uganda, where almost 2 million have fled to refugee camps and the orphaned and vulnerable students who entered grade school back in South Sudan are now attending university or trade schools in Uganda. When not living on campus, these students live with His Voice Global missionaries in Arua, Uganda.
In Arua, His Voice is busy involving community labor and leadership in the building of the Arise Discipleship and Retreat Center. The Arise Center is being built on a beautiful hilltop setting complete with neighboring waterfall, hiking trails and vegetable gardens. With the help and complete endorsement of the community, the Arise campus will continue construction with the building of it’s Great Hall building in early 2021. With the Arise campus as our gathering point, His Voice will be able to build community with the people of Arua, refugees from near-by refugee camps, and all of East Africa as believers come to strengthen their relationships with God, themselves, creation, and others.
Maai Mahiu, Kenya is a community on the infamous “Aids Highway” that is known for its involvement in the sex trade. Thankfully, His Voice is able to partner with Rift Valley Hope to support affected boys and girls by helping to fund a safe-house where food, security, and education, and love are provided. Relationships Restored. Community Renewed.
Building community is important to His Voice, and it has been since our beginning. While the number of those who need help can be overwhelming, we remain convinced that focusing on one person at a time will impact the many. If you have a minute, take a look at our 2019 Annual Report. It contains a touching story of why we believe this is so.
Thank you for your support of His Voice as we build community in the name of Jesus.
