I was reading in Proverbs 17 a few days ago and one of the verses hit me like a ton of bricks.
“The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and the Lord tests the heart.” (17:3)
Here is part of my journal entry on this passage.
So many times I have magnified the “test” in this passage, yet it’s not the focus! In the same way that the crucible and furnace get impurities our of the gold and silver so that it’s true value can shine; so God uses tests to purify our hearts so that impurity can be cleansed and that which is of highest importance can totally captivate the heart, mainly God Himself.
How many times have you been so focused on “the test” that you fail to see God?
How often do you offer your “passing the test” as a way of approval before God?
He loves you and your value is more than the test, yet testing is important.
